DC is Cuse Country

This is a photo of a sign blog contributor Josh made before a game against Georgetown in Washington. It became something of a running joke in our crew: Wherever we were, that was Cuse Country. When it came time to name this little project of ours, it seemed a natural fit. Holy crap, the Internet is Cuse Country!

Now, the time has come to move to nicer real estate. And with football season looming like an orange cloud of noxious gas, we’re moving to a new address that doesn’t have “hoops” in the URL.

So come visit us at CuseCountry.com. Same great stuff, new great home.

An open letter to NBA general managers: You seem to have forgotten about Terrence Roberts

Posted by Tom on July 2, 2007

Soaking in the recent megabuzz surrounding this year’s NBA draft, I was pleased to notice the names of Syracuse studs Demetris Nichols and Daryl Watkins tossed around by your ilk. They’re good players, and their likely signing to one of your rosters will serve you well. But in everything from the pre-draft buzz to the draft day reality, the absence of one man’s name from the chatter seemed inexplicable. Left out of the field was a chiseled 6-9 athlete carrying 230 pounds of pure muscle. A man with the heart of a lion, and the power, hunger, and coachability of a kodiak bear. That’s right, NBA general managers. Right about now you should be getting that sinking feeling like you just left your ATM card at a gas station 200 miles back. The time has come for you to explain to your fans how you let Terrence Roberts slip through the cracks. Read the rest of this entry »

An open letter to Daryl Gross

Posted by Tom on January 9, 2007

This is a letter I emailed to Daryl Gross a month or so ago, and have been disappointed not to have received a response. Therefore, with this publication, it becomes an open letter. I remain as convinced as ever that there is some sort of quantifiable psychological advantage to the use of music and noise in general in home arenas, and I hope that Syracuse explores it. If you agree, feel free to write him a follow-up at djgross@syr.edu

Dear Dr. Gross:

I’m a born and bred Syracusan, and a 2001 graduate or our fair institution. Now, as a proud alumnus and New York City resident, I remain a die hard fan who wants nothing more than to see Syracuse win.

I believe that you’re someone who’s not afraid to think big, and consider potentially innovative ideas that may be outside the traditional box. Given that, I’d like to bounce an idea off you that I’ve been kicking around for awhile regarding the presentation of games in the Carrier Dome. This might sound slightly crazy, but I believe that you have an opportunity to increase our advantage in attendance, recruiting, and even our competitive edge in the games themselves by developing a plan to fill the Carrier Dome with a wide array of powerful drums.
