Home Away From Dome for Syracuse Orange Fans

Don’t sleep on Drexel

Posted by Tim on December 19, 2006

I never would have guessed before the season started, but it looks like tonight’s game against Drexel might turn out to be more than just a drag on our RPI come spring. The Dragons knocked off Villanova last week despite the fact that Dominick Mejia, probably their best player, never found his groove. That makes you wonder about the accuracy of the obligatory “scouting report from an assistant coach whose team has played them” feature in the Post Standard, which counsels taking Mejia out of the game and forcing the Dragons to rely on their other options. Unfortunately for SU, their other options include Frank Elegar, a big forward who can bang inside. Hopefully he won’t make TerrenceRoberts.com soil his mom’s fur coat.

Also:

  • KenPom ranks Drexel 71st in his Pomeroy Ratings and gives us an 84 percent chance of winning. Interestingly, we’ve lost to the only two better teams we’ve played so far this year. Hmm.

  • According to the Yahoo! Sports preview, SU and Drexel “are two of the nation’s top shot-blocking teams, with Syracuse ranking second at 8.4 blocks per game and Drexel leading the Colonial Athletic Association with 6.8.” Apparently the Dragons have a guy who’s averaging 4.3 blocks per game. Yikes.
